Our Mental Health Team at Blavo & Co is the largest provider of Mental Health legal services in the UK. We take on matters on short notice and provide a fast service to our clients.

We are pioneers in providing in-house advocacy to our clients.

The Specialist Team at Blavo & Co consists of a team of Partners, highly trained Solicitors, Solicitors/Advocates and Paralegals.

We are committed to providing assistance and representation to clients who are experiencing difficulties with all areas of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the 2007 Act) and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including those who are subject to compulsory detention under these legislations. Our Mental Health Team has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience, dealing with a wide range of cases in this field.

A large number of our team are members of the Law Society Mental Health Tribunal Accreditation Scheme.

Our Mental Health Department prides itself on the comprehensive and empathetic service that we offer to our clients. We are sensitive to our client’s needs and act in accordance with their instructions. We endeavour to guide our clients from admission to discharge enabling a stronger relationship.

We regularly undertake work in the following areas:
 

• Acting for detained patients under the Mental Health Act 1983 and representation at First-tier Tribunal Hearings, Hospital Managers Hearings and Care Programme Approach/s117 Meetings
• Acting for Nearest Relatives including County Court displacement Proceedings
• Acting for forensic client’s/prisoners who are transferred to hospital
• Acting for patients in Specialist Secure hospitals
• Representing clients in Civil proceedings including Judicial Review against decisions of Public Bodies including Tribunals and Local/Health Authorities
• Advising and representing clients with respect to matters arising under the Human Rights Act 1998 and the European Convention on Human Rights
• Acting for client’s in the community with mental health needs
• Acting for clients subject to Deprivation of Liberty provisions under the Mental Capacity Act 2005
• Court of Protection matters

We work closely with various mental health organisations including MIND. We are also members of the following Groups and Associations:

• The Institute of Mental Health Law
• The Institute of Mental Health Act Practitioners
